"dark skies don't always mean rain."

Welcome to my Carrd! I'm Sprout, formerly Buddy, and I'm an artist, writer, and first and foremost cat lover. I love cats. They're my beloveds. I'm a sleep-deprived Filipino who reads silly cat books and watches shows about first responders. I heart Rosetail (who is the cat in the design above). Remember that.

My Turbulous Online Journey: an essay by sprout

How did I start my online journey? Signing up on Pixilart in May 2021. It was a pixel art website I saw one day while surfing the web for some, and I decided to make an account just for the fun of it. From there I somehow found a specific Magma link, posted on the wall of someone called Frostybirdy... hm! Why don't I check it out? What even is a Magma?Well, it's an interactive painting board, as proved when I clicked the link. There I did, indeed, meet Frostybirdy - Frost, basically. And someone else called Strawbs. I was wowed by the art I saw on the board, and I started to talk with Frost off-site on Pixilart aswell. And then, joining Magma after Magma, I got introduced to a lot of other people: namely, Aud, Bean, Raven, and a few other fellows. And each afternoon, roleplays and general chats would erupt on the boards. I felt like I belonged. Then overtime, with guidance from other, more experienced artists, I began to improve, slowly and steadily. I joined the Empire Discord server and got to befriend more people - shout out to Frankie. And, thanks to my friends and just observing other people's art and absorbing some aspects of it, I mishmashed everything into what my art looks like now! I'm incredibly happy with how my style looks right now, and while there's definitely a lot going on there sometimes, I thank Pixilart dearly for introducing me to the world of online art.

All My Cats (+1 [one] Dog) Over The Years: yet another essay by Sprout

The Insiders:Frankie is a mostly white cat with ginger ears, a ginger tail and gold eyes, called Frankie because my older brother was eating frankfurter hot dogs when he found her. Used to live in a little house made of cardboard decorated with felt butterflies and my drawings that we made specifically for her. Was obsessed with Mandarin until the Divorce. Born October 20, 2019.Luna is not a cat. She is a brown-and-white dog, possibly a Jack Russell Terrier (or a mix with it). What is she doing in the cat section? Well, she's my pet, that's a start. Came to us on February 1, 2023. Technically my cousin since she was first given to my uncle, who gave her to us because my aunt was allergic to fur. She's a humper and is obsessed with Mandarin too. Used to be Lukas because we thought she was a guy until three days later while reading a fucking WikiHow article, and I didn't want to name her Luca so we agreed on naming her Luna. My aunt thinks she's trans. Born December 28, 2022.

The Outsiders:Muning was an old, dusty white cat with ginger ears and a ginger tail with a black tip. Her eyes were pale green, a characteristic that would be passed on to one of her sons, and she had dark leathers. She was nice and protective of her kittens, and stayed with my grandmother a lot. She was the mother of Unat (different litter), Mandarin, Ulap and Tala. Died May 11, 2022.Bigote was a scrawny black-and-white dappled cat with blue eyes. Called Bigote, mustache/beard in Tagalog, because of some conveniently face hair-shaped black patches on his muzzle. Had a blurry, cloudy eye. Was very aloof and I did not get to know him much. Died somewhere late 2022-early 2023.Unat was a brown (actually black but.... agouti is weird as fuck) tabby and white cat with as clear green eyes as his mother. He was sort of chubby and had a skinny impostor called Onat who tried to charm my grandmother. She would of course distinguish her beloved son though. My grandmother's best friend, and he loved to eat chicken my dad bought. According to my uncle, son of Muning, brother of Mandarin, Ulap, and Tala, possible father of unknown litters. Went missing October 2023.Mandarin is a ginger-and-white cat. Called Mandarin because of his orange, though we just call him Darin, so I've forgotten that his full legal name is actually Mandarin. We didn't want to name him Orange, though, so my mother suggested Mandarin. Used to spell his name with an extra e. He used to be close with Frankie but they had a divorce. Comes in and out of the house. Son of Muning, brother of Unat, Ulap and Tala, and suspected sire of Mari's second (?) litter. Born May-August 2021.Ulap is a mostly white cat with ginger spots on his forehead, ginger ears, tail, and a small ginger spot on his back. Called Ulap, cloud in Tagalog, because his white made him look like a cloud. Has a slightly blurry eye. Hated by both Luna and Mari. Son of Muning, brother of Unat, Mandarin and Tala, and could also be the sire of Mari's second (?) litter. Born May-August 2021.Tala is a ginger-and-white cat, with his notable characteristic being his right eye, that was just a socket. Called Tala, star in Tagalog, because of a medium-sized spot on his back. Used to be weak, but after my dad fed him and his littermates and mom vitamins, he grew strong. Son of Muning, brother of Unat, Mandarin and Ulap. Born May-August 2021. Died November 4, 2021.Patches, used to be Stranger Cat, was a calico cat with green eyes. Called Patches because of... her... tortoiseshell patches. Used to steal food from my cats and my dad hated her, before she and I became friends and everyone loved her. Seemed to have a mouth infection. Friend of Frankie, though she smacked her one time. Mother of Ddana, Binnie and MJ (we named her litter after ASTRO member nicknames. Correct.) Went missing February 2023.Ddana, Binnie and MJ were Patches' kittens. Ddana was a tortoiseshell (I thought for the longest time that the entire litter was toms before finding out that torties were almost always female and side-eyeing him. Or her.) and white kitten, named after a nickname for the ASTRO member Yoon Sanha. Binnie was a gray tabby and white kitten, named after Moon Bin. MJ was a ginger and white kitten, named after... MJ. Died in quick succession within one another.Dilim was a sturdy thick-furred black-and-white cat with green-yellow eyes. Called Dilim, darkness in Tagalog, because of his dark fur. Was really attached to me, following me around all the time like a toddler to his mother. Loved being pat. Took a while for my parents to warm up to him because they thought he was going to hurt me. Super sweet. Possibly a cat I've seen before that I called Gizmo. Disappeared over time around September 2024.Mari is a calico cat with green eyes, almost identical to Patches, but she has a more youthful look to her. Called Mari, short for marites (a Tagalog term for a gossiper) because she always talks. She's obsessed with me probably. She hates Ulap for an irrational reason but respects Mandarin. Possible daughter of Patches, mother of Dilim Junior (we don't actually know if his sire is Dilim, but my uncle called Mari's kittens Dilim and Liwanag without knowing that there was also the Other Dilim so I just rolled with it), Liwanag, and three unnammed kittens.Dilim Jr. and Liwanag were Mari's first known litter, aka the litter I saw. Dilim was mostly black with a white spot on his muzzle and white toes, and Liwanag was mostly white with black ears and a black tail, called Liwanag (light in Tagalog) because of it. They were scared of me. Disappeared soon after getting discovered, somewhere mid 2024.
